======================================================================= ANDROIDS (Faceless Men) ======================================================================= Androids are man-made beings who look exactly like Pure Strain Humans, except for their featureless faces, and, from a distance, are often mistaken for them. They usually consider Pure Strain Humans to be enemies. They are fearless and will fight to the death. Androids often travel heavily armed in groups of up to six. ================ Android, Warrior ================ --------------- CHARACTERISTICS --------------- AVERAGE MAXIMUM ('Mint' Condition) ------- -------------------------- STR 20 (10 points) 23 (16 points) DEX 20 (30 points) 23 (42 points) CON 20 (20 points) 23 (32 points) BODY 15 (10 points) 19 (18 points) INT 20 (10 points) 23 (16 points) EGO 10 (0 points) 20 (20 points) PRE 20 (10 points) 23 (16 points) COM 20 (5 points) 23 (8 points) PD 8 (4 points) 9 (4 points) ED 8 (4 points) 9 (4 points) MD - (0 points) - (0 points) SPD 4 (10 points) 5 (17 points) REC 10 (4 points) 11 (4 points) END 50 (5 points) 56 (5 points) STUN 45 (10 points) 52 (10 points) -- --- TOTAL 132 points +80 points over 'average' ------ POWERS ------ Damage Resistance: 7rPD/7rED [GW AC4] (7 points) Enhanced Senses: Sight: IR Vision, UV Vision Hearing: Ultra-Sonic, Sub-Sonic Flash Defence: 3 points Sight Group 3 points Hearing Group Hand-To-Hand Attack: +1d6 (Android Body) Life Support: Total (30 points) Power Defence: 3 points (Inorganic Lifeform) Running: 9" [Move 15] Swimming: 3". ------ SKILLS ------ Combat Skill Levels: +3 With All Combat (24 points) Demolitions: 14- Languages: - Native is that of Creator Nation - Enemy of Creator Nation w/ accent. This is for four reasons: 1) the pictures in GAMMA WORLD depict them as such, 2) In METAMORPHOSIS ALPHA they were that way (see the article "Faceless Men and CLockwork Monsters" way back in DRAGON #17), 3) It makes them distinctively different, 4) and it gives them a reason for their hatred of humanity -- for having them dehumanly created. However, I probably should reduce the PRE and COM of androids to 10 as they don't really have any reason to be as high as they are in the GW stats in the first place! The 1st ed. GAMMA WORLD Warrior Android "has an 18 in all categories save Mental Strength" (MS) but the 2nd ed. Warrior Androids have swapped INT (INT) and MS (EGO) by giving INT d10+8, and MS d10+11. I've chosen to see this as a typographical error and assign to lowest score to MS which converts as EGO and, as it's maximum value is the same as for humans [18] I've simply left it at 10. For the other Characterisitics, Warrior Androids would have a maximum of either 20 [18 in 1st ed. GW] or 23 [d10+11 in 2nd ed. GW]. Unlike organic lifeforms, Android's Characteristics (CHA) don't improve with experience, rather, they deteriorate over time. Thus, while in 'mint condition' they would be at their NCM, as shown above, and later have reduced CHA depending on how much 'wear and tear' they have accumulated over the years (without being repaired). This is why I have given them such high Characteristic values. However, all androids should NOT be used at this NCM level! I whole-heartedly encourage you to use lower CHA values for the ancient androids that have seen much use over the years - the 'Average' model above reflects the 1st ed. GW statistics. Also, albeit more rarely, feel free to enhance the abilities of the base warrior android provided here as elite units. The unit depicted here is merely the most cost-efficient baseline model used by the ancients -- it is not the only model. For example, one could give them the Automotan Power "Takes No Stun" -- which also makes Warrior Androids feel more like the inhuman killing machines that they, no doubt, were created to be, and it allows them to deteriorate with damage, which fits with what I've stated above. The AC of the Warrior Android in 1st ed. GW was 4 which, according to the 1st edition DMG puts it in the AD&D range of AC 5 and 2; the androids in module S3 EXPEDITION TO THE BARRIER PEAKS have AC3 which converts to 7rDEF which I thought fit well for GW Warrior Androids. I opted for "Damage Resistance" instead of armor, to simulate this protection. This makes them fairly hard to hurt, but far from invincible. =======================================================================
